Planning for 2012....and how you can help
Remain at its 2011 site, with plans to bring better visibility to the market's location.
Offer credit/debit capability to its customers.
Offer EBT benefits to eligible SNAP (food-stamp) clients with support from grant funding offered through a partnership with Clark County Public Health.
Schedule the market to optimize the best of SW Washington's harvest season: early July through end of September.
Partner with the North Salmon Creek Neighborhood Association to host a Very Berry Festival, scheduled for the weekend of June 22, at Alki Middle School in Salmon Creek. In combination with carnival activities, this event will feature all the vendors from the SCFM but will focus on berries and starter plants.
Partner with the Clark County Food Bank to implement a program that enables and incents neighbors and local farmers to donate excess produce to the Food Bank.
With a defined "center stage", increase the calendar of special educational and entertainment events, such as "Employee Appreciation Day" for select sponsors, cooking demonstrations, speakers, classes, fitness demonstrations, and live music. The market has also submitted a grant application for funding with which to purchase two large-sized canopies to enhance the center market area.
Continue to educate and engage the children with the Barnyard, Crossway Church's booth for kids and their families.
With details still to be defined, the 2012 schedule includes participation in Legacy Salmon Creek's Healthy Kids Fair in early June, and having a presence at the Clark County PUD 'Idea Fair' in late April.
Local businesses are invited and encouraged to help operate and sustain the Salmon Creek Farmers' Market any number of sponsorship and donation packages available. Although dollar donations are critical to actual operation of the market, other suggestions include:
Purchase of new banners (approximately $1,000).
Purchase of large inflatable balloon for bringing visibility to the market site.
Site improvement and maintenance, such as mowing, resurfacing (approximately $1,500).
Two picnic tables, miscellaneous lawn chairs (approximately $800).
Hardware rental or purchase for EBT, credit and debit use (approximately $1,500).
Co-branded water bottles (ecologically sustainable) (approximately $700).
Funds used exclusively for matching federal and state food-assistance dollars, increasing the amount of dollars that families in-need can spend at the farmers' market on fresh, locally-produced food.
Discounts at your place of business in exchange for produce donations to the Clark County Food Bank. ;
